Water scarcity

Water scarcity is one of the major concerns in this century. Even in cities with huge water supply plants there is not sufficient water and their supply is often limited to a very short period of the day. With the rapidly increasing pressure of population o our water resources, more and more villages, towns and cities are facing this problem. For instance, consider the rain water harvesting system which is one of the best ways to save water. Few years back in India, new policies and rules issued by the Rajiv Gandhi in 1986 to meet the drinking water requirements. Then drinking water was avail to only certain limit. It is estimated that over 100,000 localities use contaminated and polluted water with high salinity, arsenic, and fluoride, iron and other pollutants. Water quality for drinking water is reduced and people using contaminated water and suffered from severe health problems. During that periods, prime minister increased the fund value to 20,000 crore which is needed to sustain drinking water system in the country for the next five years. They opine that communities should increasingly involve in sustaining the water resources created for them.
