A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

This proverb tells us to make use of the opportunities available at the maximum to attain the higher goals. And it warns those who run after plausible promises and hopes, leaving the opportunities in hand. Man has many desires and wants to get fulfilled them fully. During his effects he can not avail all the chances at a time. So at first he should make the maximum use of the available chances what are in hand and try the other chances. If he forgets to utilize the opportunity in hand and aspires on the other means only, he would lose both what is hand and the other Hence, one should aim higher goals, only after making the maximum use of the available opportunities.

We should bear in mind the act of the dog in the story ‘ Greedy Dog’. A dog with a bone in his mouth was crossing a river. Accidentally he looked into the water and saw his own image. He thought of another dog with a bone in his mouth forgetting his own image. Aspiring to snatch the bone, he opened his mouth and immediate the bone fell down into the water. Due to the greed of snatching the other bone in the false impression, the dog lost the one, which was in his own possession. This story tells us that we should care for what is with us at the moments and should not run after the things thinking the false promises and hopes.
